Whether you are a couple, or a single, Edmonton has some great culinary events that happen just for Valentine’s Day.  There are some amazing specials going on.  I would like to share a few with you. For BBQ Lovers Only: If you haven’t already tried Smoke & Ash Canadian BBQ, then you are in for a real treat!  During the winter they have their “All You Can Eat BBQ Buffet”.  That is all the meats, all the sides and a beverage to boot!  They don’t have a liquor license and are fa

2017 Halloween Happenings

October is my favourite time of year for many reasons; there is the beautiful color of the fall leaves on the trees, the crispness in the air, the pumpkin spice everything and of course, Halloween. In Edmonton, we have some hidden gems for the Halloween season that you really need to go and see.  Please read on for some spooky offerings. ESCAPE FROM MORBID MANOR Part haunted house and part escape room, this is the new local offering for the 2017 season.  If you look at the di

Coldest Night of The Year 2015 for Hope Mission

Food is my passion.  I didn’t always have this passion, my palate was very un-educated until I started dating someone that showed me the finer things in life. I grew up in a family of five.  I was lucky we always had food on the table.  I know my parents struggled sometimes.  I can’t even imagine the fear of not knowing where your next meal is coming from and whether or not you are going to be able to feed your children. When I was in high school, I was very passionate about

CRAFT Beer Market – Beer With Class

The new Craft Beer Market is located in downtown Edmonton just off Rice Howard Way.  It is tucked away in the same block as Wood Work and 100 Bar and Grill.  I am a huge beer fan, and “on tap” is the best of the best that a beer drinker can experience.  The original Craft is located in Calgary; my Calgarian friends rave about how much they love it there.  I have been waiting for Craft to open for months and carefully watching the social media feeds for opening day.  Today is

23rd Annual Chili Cook Off – River City Roundup

When I worked downtown, I would always make sure I had the afternoon off to attend the RCR Annual Chili Cook Off. The shear creativity and flavour that go into some of the creations that you can sample were simply mind-boggling. You go and purchase your bowls, pick the ones that you would like to sample and enjoy! You could even vote for your favourite. This year I get to do things a little differently… Sadly, I don’t work downtown any longer.  I do have the best boss around

A Taste of Canadian Derby

The Canadian Derby has been the foremost social and fashion event of the season in Edmonton since 1957.  This is a chance for the ladies to display beautiful hats and fascinators. When I think of “Derby”, images of Julia Roberts dressed for the Kentucky Derby dance through my imagination. Some Derby Trivia; this event is considered to be a “marathon” for the horses at 1 and 3/8 miles.  Only three year old horses are entered into the race.  It is the largest purse west of Onta

Tres Carnales – Tacos for the People!

You know when you have friends that continually bring up a specific restaurant several times that you should probably take their word for it and just go! It took me a little over two years to finally try out the infamous “Tres Carnales”. They are neatly tucked into Rice Howard Way in downtown Edmonton. Finding parking is always a chore – I guarantee you they are worth the effort. You walk into the restaurant and you line up to give your order. The menus are on overhead chalkb

Central Social Hall – Grand Opening

I work in the Associated Engineering Plaza where the doomed sushi restaurant was situated.  I am unsure of the name, but when I read the eviction notice on the door when I first started there, they did not look like they were very “upstanding” tenants. I was excited to see that construction had begun with a new tenant and was intrigued by their marketing campaign.   They had a few quirky videos that were advertising “Public Conversation”.  I scoured Twitter and the internets
